Japanese food! Andy and I went to an amazing Japanese restaurant yesterday! The ambiance alone was worth the price of the food! These are pictures of some of the foods we ate. Andy also had bits of raw fish. I only had one piece. I had the chicken pictured with California rolls like the ones on the leftt, and miso soup in the center photo. There were tables that had hibachi grills where chefs prepared the food on site. Andy got a Bento box meal which is a black lacquered box with a divided insert filled with a variety of foods. Everything was beautifully presented. At the front of the restaurant there was a raised platform with a traditional Japanese low table with legless chairs. Under the table was a pit for the diners to put their legs so they didn't have to fold their legs to sit there. A Japanese family came in, took off their shoes, and ate their lunch there while conversing in Japanese. The entire experience was awesome and appealed to my OCD soul.
After lunch, Andy and I went to the mall and parked under the parking garage so we could park in the shade. Brilliant innit? We saw the Simpson's Movie while there. Hilarious film! Really fun.The guy behind us in the theater made it even more fun because he had a great laugh and laughed everywhere appropriate. We had a built-in laugh track! Then we did some shopping where Andy got some cool VAN slip-on shoes that look a bit like furniture upholstery and I got a green T shirt with a sailing ship on it. We went to the Border's Book store and they gave us sample sized frozen coffees. Scrummy! Then we drove to another shopping center and went to the TJ MAX store where I got 6 tops! Andy also got a really nice stir fry pan. By then it was dinner time and we went to an authentic Chinese restaurant and Andy had squid in garlic & black bean sauce and I had vegetable pan fried noodles. Very good. On the drive home we stopped at McDonald's (NO!!) and got iced hazelnut coffees. That really hit the spot! All in all a grand day out! We had an awesomely fun day.
The kitten made a reappearance as well and was here this morning for his breakfast. He is still extremely afraid so will never be any body's pet. We will just have to see what becomes of him. I think he might stay around until big enough to go out "catting" and then find another home. Think he still neads a name though. Just because calling him "the kitten" won't work if he's still here in a couple of months.
Today I will probably do some lazing about and perhaps iron some clothes but not much more. Working on this blog should be enough, right? Actually Andy and I are going to work on the basement some more. HazMat suits are no longer necessary but sturdy shoes are in order.
Today's interesting fact:
The real basis of the Japanese diet is not rice but fish, consumed at more than 154 pounds per person per year, almost one-half pound per day.
If it is served raw, somebody will have to eat MY 154 pounds!! ~Sue
