We have returned, unscathed!

We had a fun day in the city, shopping, eating, and driving. Well, some of the driving wasn’t so good. First, I nearly caused an accident. I waited at a red light and when the cross traffic had stopped I started to pull out to turn but the oncoming traffic didn’t have a stop and I nearly pulled out in front of somebody. His horn worked well in warning me off. Shesh! Later, a very nice Lexus SUV was making sudden lane changes and swerving around water puddles, so as not to dirty his expensive vehicle, without signaling even once. He finally turned off onto a different street, of course without signaling. The SUV must have cost so much he couldn’t afford the signal mechanism. I would have thought they came standard. Ah well… I also saw a very cute red & white Mini Cooper but it was traveling quite safely. Anyway… Andy and I went to Westfield Mall and ate mall food. Andy had a Philly cheese steak sandwich and fries and I had a spinach & cheese stromboli and Cesar salad. Very good. Later we stopped at a Godiva chocolate store so Andy could get a Chocolixir™ Beverage. I was good and didn’t get one. The guy running the shop gave us sample chocolates. They were Almond Praline Raindrops. Milk chocolate filled with Almond truffle. Wow. The man said they were about $1.25 EACH! We didn’t buy any but thanked him for the treat. We walked around the mall and Andy bought VANS shoes, two pair of Cargo trousers, and a winter coat. The coat was on sale. We looked around the book store. He got a book about growing Bonsai trees and I got a imported magazine. I helped him carry his stuff and thus didn’t buy anything but food and the magazine for myself. Good on me! We left the mall and went to an Asian grocery store. I needed to buy soba noodles, oyster sauce (not the crap you get at a supermarket), and egg roll cookies. They look like this:

I have a tin like this one but needed more cookies to put in it. I bought coffee and coconut flavored roll cookies. They are light and delicate. Very tasty! I also got sesame seeds, and milky tea. It comes in cans like soda. We headed out of the city and stopped at a Kroger Supermarket to stock up on groceries. We bought some very nice crusty boule loaf and baguettes, deli meat, chocolate cookies (buy one, get one!), and fresh fruit along with all the regular stuff we buy from week to week. Then it was back home again to put stuff away and eat a nice sandwich made with some of the delicious stuff we bought. Hungry yet? Sorry.

That was our day. It was quite a nice day overall. And the best news? Ben's frozen water pipes have thawed! Hurrah!
