Technology Trap!

firewall

Remember Sunday’s power outage/alien invasion? Library was an interesting place to work yesterday. Our entire computer network was DOWN most of the day. The power outage took out our Firewall Router which in turn took out our network. All work was done by hand. Much work was laid aside. Finally, mid afternoon, a technician was able to get a few terminals set up remotely and we were able to do business in a somewhat limited way. It may have been aliens trying to get control of the Library network. I’ve heard aliens are very intelligent and would probably enjoy having control of a Library. Could be the real reason, right? We now have a small, temporary firewall in place. The old hardware originally cost $1500.00. Not sure what the new one will run. We’re hoping insurance will cover “acts of nature” and “alien invasion.”

Oh, and the local authorities are claiming a errant raccoon took out a substation. Yeah, an ALIEN raccoon!!

I remember trying to work at the SBTS library when the network was down... yeah, pretty impossible.
