Mulling it over

(Google Images)

Digital TV is here or at least fast approaching. We have 3 lovely TVs, 2 of them digital, 1 with a converter box. When conditions are right, they all get excellent picture. That is the problem. WHEN CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT. If there is wind, bad weather, a tree in the way, or strange atmospheric conditions, our digital reception is, well, crap! We've been thinking of getting a new digital antenna, but the one we have is only 1 or 2 years old and IS a digital antenna. Recently we have tried hooking a laptop computer to the TV to view TV shows and films Online. It's fantastic! The selections are nearly endless. We love watching films and old TV shows (as well as current ones.) So now we are considering buying a new laptop computer to put in the livingroom to use for viewing entertainment. To install satellite TV would very expensive and of course the monthly cost it very high. Cable is not available in our woods. A laptop would be the (nearly) perfect solution. We already have wireless Internet. Now begs the question, "do we NEED it?" We could well survive without it. We have to decide how important it is to us. It would take less than a year for it to pay for itself when you consider subscription services and rental fees.

We are pondering. News at 11:00. (maybe it will be on the Internet!)

Ooh! Ooh! I know the answer!!

...no, you don't need it. ;)

Seriously though, you have a humongous computer monitor you could watch stuff on and you already know how to rig up a system to watch stuff from the computer on the TV (get a long cord and you can do the same thing with your desktop. Just coil up the cord behind the TV or computer when you're not using it to get the cord out of the way). ...why spend a bunch of money on something you essentially already have for free?? I would save the money for something else :)
