I was trying very hard to NOT write this but it was niggling at the edges of my brain so I decided to get it over with before I had nothing left to think with.

An Autumn Drive
Driving in my pocket-rocket
the leaves fly up behind me
like sparks and flames.
The river I follow sparkles
despite the muddy brown water.
It's brown from the farmer's fields
but lovely in the sunlight.
It twists and turns like some
long fluid serpent.
A guardrail on the bridge protects me from the serpent
yet allows a view of it's winding edges.
It's waters are high for Autumn.
October was generous with rain.
I drive past a farm and
slow down to look at Belgian horses
whose owners have dressed them for the chill.
They look back at me.
