And so it begins
This week, Dennis is on vacation and I'm not. Monday morning, before I had to be at work by Noon, Dennis wanted to plan the kitchen. He is hoping to get the plan hammered out this week whilst he has time to work on it. We've already sorted the "footprint" of the kitchen but NOT how the cabinets, drawers, etc are to be configured. I looked around and said, "I've no idea." He said, "How long have we been talking about this?" I replied, "I thought you would build it and I would use it." Dennis just rolled his eyes and gave me the look. We did an area by area discussion, planning, etc, and now have a pretty good idea of how things will be configured. He is working on the plan. We were going to have a hard wood floor but last night I suggested perhaps vinyl or tile instead. Dennis agreed wood may not be the best choice for a kitchen. Now we need to look at tile. It still seems a better choice. It will make the kitchen look brighter and be easier to care for, especially for spills like grease or milk. Think of those things seeping down into the cracks in a wood floor! Ewww! So now it will likely be a vinyl floor. It will likely cost less as well. Bonus!
Now begs the question, will the marriage survive? (lol)

Vinyl floors can be very pretty too! Super easy to clean up (tile can be annoying because of the grooves). Good choice.
I'm glad you're getting it figured out!
The marriage BETTER survive!!
good luck figuring out the configuration of the cabinets! I feel like that could be the most difficult part. as for the floors, i agree that tile can be very hard to keep clean, we put tiles in the kitchen and dining room at the condo and even after only living with it for a year, the grout lines were gross looking (but we also used white, not the best choice) - if you do put down tile i'd say go with a smaller grout line and don't use white grout. there are a lot of different options for vinyl though and it will be much easier to clean! have you thought about a cork floor? i'm actually seriously considering that for our (future) kitchen. it's supposidly great for kitchens and it has some give to it so it's very comfortable to stand on. and of course i love the idea of wood floors just from a pure looks side of it...
i posted a thing about the pets on the blog, since you asked... :-)
With the money you are saving on floors, get nice countertops! I LOVE my quartz countertops! Also get tons of kitchen books from the library. We got a bunch of ideas, like the garages and phone shelf from them. My favorite new cabinets are my cookie sheet cabinet and the 4 little knick knack drawers we keep batteries and keys in! And don't worry about the marriage....you'll be too busy to fight!
