Garage sale

Ancient Chinese soldier replicas

Ancient Chinese soldier replicas

One of our Library patrons (who happens to be Chinese) told me she was having a garage sale and thought I may be interested in the Chinese items she was selling. Well, of course I was! I purchased these fine replicas of Ancient Chinese soldiers. You know, the lot they’ve dug up?

This lot:

warriors

Over 2,200 years ago China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huagn, in search of immortality, ordered the construction of a vast army of 8,000 life-sized Terra Cotta warriors. For 36 years, more than 700,000 laborers worked on this huge project. Surrounding his tomb and then buried under layers of earth and sand, this amazing archaeological treasure was first discovered in 1974, by a Chinese farmer digging a well. The subject of numerous articles, television shows, and visited by over 2 million visitors each year, the site is considered one of the wonders of the ancient world.

I also purchased this lovely jade bead bracelet!

While at the garage sale, a fast moving SUV clipped another vehicle and careened toward my Honda DX (the silver car, not the newish red one) and came to a stop a mere 3 feet from the front of my car! That was close!

I also purchased some fish shaped chopstick rests and a new bamboo cutting board. All the items combined only cost $25!! Bargains!

I love bargains.

What has been your best garage sale buy? I once bought an antique full-size bed for $60 and 2 Fireking bowls (worth $7-$10 each) for $1 for both.

Nice! I like the soldiers.

My best buy was probably the infant car seat I got recently. I got the car seat and two bases for $30. If I bought them new they'd cost around $200.

hm, i haven't had much luck at garage sales lately, although last time i went to one i got about a dozen books for just a few dollars.

there was a garage sale down the street the day i moved into my apartment at school and one of my roommates parents went and got a bunch of stuff for our apartment - the best pieces were this lamp that had a very interesting base, and an awesome retro dresser. the dresser went to my roommate and i was jealous for the 2 years we lived together.

I saw this link on Facebook. Great finds!

I went to a bunch of garage sales today and got a new, cute purple jacket for $2. Probably my best deal in a while.

Rachel must get her deal-finding gene from you.
