Today I visited a different church. The church I have been attending is only alright. Let me explain. The teaching can't be beat. The pastor is very knowledgeable and teaches verse by verse from the Bible which I like VERY much. Unfortunately I don't feel I am a part of the congregation and I strongly dislike the music. I have been missing a lot of services especially when I have to go alone because of these reasons and the fact that it takes 15 - 20 minutes to drive over there. I grew up Evangelical, turned unhappy Methodist and now am looking for something I am happy with. My current church is non-denominational, which I like but when you don't feel like you belong there, it is hard to feel as though you have worshiped, innit? The music I don't like? It is 98% praise songs which, with my musical background I find tuneless, monotonous, meaningless rubbish. First let me apologize to those of you who like that sort of music. Good on you then, but I need more. I need music that speaks to me musically and lyrically. That would most often be traditional hymns. So, today I visited the Presbyterian Church which is down the block from the library I work at. The photo is of the church. It is made entirely of stone with a tile roof. Stunningly beautiful both outside and in. The music was entirely traditional and played with great skill on a pipe organ. Fabulous! The congregation was mixed in nearly equal parts from each generation down to the very young. The pastor seemed very genial and had a nice speaking voice. Unfortunately his sermon could not compare to the young pastor at my current church, at least in my one-of sampling this morning. The service began promptly at 10 and ended nearly on time at 11, which I must say is nice as well. My current church begins at 10:45 and ends about 11:45. That only matters if I want to make plans to go somewhere. Moot point really. So, in summation, I would like to give the Presbyterian Church another go. Perhaps switch back and forth for awhile. I will say driving 2 miles to go to church is nicer than driving 12 which is how far the current church is. I am going to give the Presbyterians a fair trail before I decide. News at 11:00!
Today's interesting fact:
People choose a church the same way we choose a supermarket to frequent. It's got to be good and close. There might be one better that we know of, but if it's not good and close, chances are we'll be infrequent attenders at best.
Good point......I think that may be something of what I just wrote.....hmmmmm........ ~Sue

Nate keeps having to work Sundays and I don't want to try to run to and from an early service in time for him to eat and get to work at noon. Most churches seem to have evening services at about 5, and that's when he gets off work so we couldn't get to that in time either... :(
