These are what we believe to be Cooper's Hawks. There were actually 3 of them. These two were trying to catch a red squirrel who was apparently hiding inside the log the second hawk is sitting on. The third hawk was smaller than these two. They were very beautiful and really something to see swooping through the woods. The only problem is they also eat the song birds. I suppose you take the good with the bad. Dennis heard them, I saw them, then he snapped these photos. It was very cool. Geroge Bofur, the orange cat, thought they looked tasty and his tail was swishing madly. I don't think he realized just how big they were and what sort of danger he would be in were he outside. Good he was inside then, isn't it?

I would not want those guys after me if I was a small critter. Matter of fact, I wouldn't want them after ME! Maybe they were "mom" and "pop" and their fledgling was watching the hunt. -- JG
