Bad news sprinkled with a glimmer of hope.

2 weeks ago I was driving past the South Side Shell station during Campbell’s Soup Company shift change when a guy pulled out of the gas station through stopped traffic into my lane of moving traffic and did this:

dx-accident1

This damage represents $3200 in repair costs.  The car is worth $2100.  The other guy’s insurance company decided to “total” my sweet little car.  I am sad and very disappointed.  I’ll never find a car as nice as this one was for that price.

Last Thursday I went to the lot and took photos of the damage, cleared out my stuff, and was going to sign it over for salvage.

I only had the car for 3 months.  3 MONTHS!!

I was gutted.

Then…

The guy at the repair shop did an estimate for me and said he could repair it with “reclaimed” parts for $2326!  I called the agent at the Insurance Company, told him I would NOT release the car for salvage until he could tell me how much they would give me for it.  (He wanted me to release the car without telling me how much they were going to pay me for it!!)  I repeated to him I want my car repaired and returned to me. I am so angry I can almost taste it.

The hope is, and I’m waiting for a phone call as I type this, I will receive a check for repairs, get a “salvage title” and get my nice little car back in it’s previously pristine condition.  Today will tell.

Wish me luck!
